Ka Makani Intramurals—An Integral Part of HPA's Summer Session

I've played football since I was six years old. After three years of Pop Warner, I grew too big to play in the league, and I was left with no other sport to play that I enjoyed. I had nothing to help me stay in shape, which was important to me, but not an easy thing to do on my own.

School intramurals was the only other program available that offered football. The positive thing about school intramurals is that it helped me stay in shape and stay connected to football. Most of all, I had fun with my teachers and friends.

The HPA Summer Session intramural program offers a range of options, from low-impact activities such as yoga, to extreme physical sports such as basketball and flag football. Many kids participate in this program every summer, and they have many positive things to say about Ka Makani intramurals.

Middle schooler Ravi Afaga said, “I wouldn't change anything about the summer intramural program.” She also added that she enjoyed the variety of intramural choices.

Ravi's friend, Makena Hurney, said she wouldn't change anything ether, but she would like to see more activities in the future. She added that she now finds the game of basketball an interesting and fun sport.

Roisin Darby said she really enjoyed learning more about yoga because she feels that yoga helps her to relieve stress. Roisin also said that she likes the many different sports to play.

After talking to students about school intramurals, I realize that we all have one favorite thing in common. What we all love is to make new friends. Having friends and learning new sports together creates a bond. This bond is made by playing games and by having friendly competition. We also learn good sportsmanship by having the opportunity to compete in sports with friends. HPA's Summer Session intramural program brings people together to make lifelong relationships—friends you will never forget.
